Today’s guest is Nick Hardwick. Nick is a former NFL Pro Bowl Center for the San Diego Chargers. He started in 146 games, earned distinction as one of the 50 Greatest Chargers of All-Time as a member of the 50th Anniversary team, won the Ed Block Courage award, and earned Pro Bowl honors for his play on the field. Nick’s proudest accomplishment during his career was earning the title of Team Captain for his last 5 seasons in the league. Nick was drafted to the Chargers with the 3rd pick of the 3rd rd of the 2004 draft, 3 years after walking on to the Purdue University football team, inspired by Drew Brees and the success of the Boilermakers at the time. All of this, and Nick didn’t play high school football! He was a high school wrestler who hit puberty late! Go figure! At Purdue, during Nick’s second year, a friend in the ROTC program, where Nick was on scholarship to become a Marine Corps officer, showed him an ad in the classified section of the Purdue student newspaper for walk-on tryouts. The rest, as they say, is history.
Following Nick’s illustrious career in football, he immediately lost 85lbs in under 5 months, showing up at his retirement press conference weighing 208lbs. This grabbed a lot of national media attention, where Nick was falsely accused of being on performance enhancing drugs during his playing career, because, “How else could the rapid weight loss be explained?” Nick decided to use that as motivation to show others how to lose weight fast, reclaim their health and ultimately their life. The program he designed for himself to lose weight has become the Lose Like a Lineman Program and most recently Lose Like a Lady designed with his health conscious wife, Jayme’s guidance. Together they are helping hundreds of people lose weight and stay active every day. They also host a health and wellness focused podcast, called The HardwickLIFE.
